Build process

  1. Prepare the RAK4631

    Seat the RAK4631 on the WisBlock base and temporarily connect the supplied LoRa and Bluetooth antennas for bench testing.

  2. Install the U.FL to N-female path

    Press the U.FL connector straight onto the LoRa socket, route the coax gently and mount the N-female bulkhead through the enclosure.

  3. Connect the battery

    Connect the battery to the BAT port only after checking connector type and polarity. Never force a mismatched JST plug.

  4. Connect solar

    Route the panel to the board solar input using the correct connector and polarity. Verify the panel voltage is appropriate for the board before connection.

  5. Mount and seal

    Secure the board and battery so they cannot shift. Seal the RF bulkhead and solar-wire entry with RTV; wrap the exterior antenna joint with self-fusing silicone tape.

  6. Flash and configure

    Install the current official RAK4631 build of MeshCore or Meshtastic, set the correct region, and configure the node role for your intended deployment.

  7. Test and deploy

    Confirm messaging, charging and battery behavior on the bench, then mount high with the antenna vertical. Monitor the first several days of solar performance.
