Build process

  1. Choose the radio platform

    Start with the RAK4631 or RAK3312 option that matches your firmware/features and enclosure plan.

  2. Choose the PoE approach

    For power only, use a compatible 5 V USB-C splitter. For Ethernet functionality plus power, use the supported RAK Ethernet/PoE module combination.

  3. Bench-test the injector and splitter

    Confirm the PoE injector, cable and splitter/module negotiate and produce the expected voltage before attaching the radio.

  4. Build the enclosure

    Use outdoor-rated Ethernet entry hardware, strain relief and appropriate grounding/surge practices for exposed cable runs.

  5. Configure the node

    Flash current firmware and configure the regional radio settings and node role. Add the GNSS module only if your build actually needs it.

  6. Deploy and monitor

    Place the node and antenna for coverage while keeping the Ethernet run serviceable. Recheck power and enclosure temperature after sustained operation.

Build notes

  • The Rokland referral parameter ref=yskzwcgr is preserved on the linked products.
  • Outdoor Ethernet that exits a building should be installed with appropriate surge/lightning protection practices.
  • A PoE build is ideal where reliable wired power is available and solar is unnecessary.
