Meshtastic field checklist
UPDATE WITHOUT LOSING THE MESH.
New firmware can add useful features, but alpha, beta and nightly builds can also change behavior. Back up the things that matter before you flash a node you rely on.

Important: This is a practical safety checklist, not a substitute for the official Meshtastic release notes. Experimental builds can contain bugs or breaking changes.
Before you update
- Record your LoRa region, modem preset and channel configuration.
- Save important channel keys and private configuration securely.
- Record node name, role, location settings and any remote-admin access you depend on.
- Make sure you can physically reconnect to a remote node if the update breaks remote access.
- Know which stable firmware version you would roll back to.
If your nodes suddenly disappear
Do not assume the hardware failed. Compare region, frequency slot, modem preset, channel settings and keys between the affected nodes. A configuration mismatch can make two healthy radios behave as if they cannot see each other.
Be extra careful with unattended infrastructure
Fixed outdoor and remote nodes should be treated differently from a desk radio. If a node requires a ladder, roof access, long drive or host-site visit, test the same update on a spare device first.
