Before changing firmware, note the region, modem preset, channel settings, device role and any custom radio configuration you rely on. A screenshot or configuration export can save a lot of guessing later.

Updated your radio and suddenly the mesh looks empty? Before assuming the hardware is broken, check the settings that determine whether your node can actually hear the network around it.

Quick check: Nodes using different modem presets are not automatically compatible. If your radio is configured differently from the local mesh, it can look completely isolated even when the hardware is working normally.
Before you update
Know what your local mesh uses
Do not assume a freshly configured device matches nearby nodes. Confirm the modem preset used by the people or infrastructure you expect to communicate with.
Update one device first
If you own several nodes, update and verify one before changing everything. Keeping a known-good node makes troubleshooting much easier.
LongFast vs. LongTurbo
One of the easiest ways to end up with an apparently empty node list is a modem-preset mismatch. LongFast and LongTurbo are different presets. A node configured for one should not be expected to communicate normally with a mesh operating on the other.
Radio looks dead after setup?
Check the modem preset before reflashing, replacing antennas or buying another device. Match the configuration used by the mesh you are trying to reach, then test again.
Troubleshooting an empty mesh
Region + modem preset
Confirm your regulatory region and modem preset. A configuration mismatch can look exactly like a range or hardware problem.
Channel configuration
Verify the channel and encryption settings expected by the network you are joining. Matching the radio preset alone does not guarantee matching channel configuration.
RF basics
Once configuration is confirmed, check antenna connection, antenna suitability, placement, power and whether a known nearby node is actually online.
